Her grandfather, John S. Venters served in the West Tennessee Militia during the War of 1812. He fought in and survived, the Battle of New Orleans.
Only to perish days afterward from "battlefield Illness", as did so many other men, waiting in the swaps for the British to return.
She is a 5th great grand daughter of Ann Durant (Marwood) (1635 - 1694). The first woman named as an attorney the extant records of North Carolina.
