LIFE-LONG RESIDENT DEAD
T. E. MELUGIN, 83, WAS BORN IN JASPER COUNTY

End Comes to Retired Farmer at Home on Olive Street This Morning

Thomas E. Melugin, 83 years old, a life-long resident of the eastern district of Jasper county and widely known citizen, died at 8 o'clock this morning at his home, 726 Olive Street.
Death was due to heart disease.
For some time, Mr. Melugin had been subject to attacks of heart disease. He had been ill for the past week, but yesterday was well enough to sit up in a chair.
Mr. Melugin was born 12 miles east of Carthage, November 18. 1837. He lived east of Carthage until 25 years ago, when he retired from farming and moved to this city. Mr. Melugin led a quiet life. While a very partisan Democrat he never entered politics further than to attend county and city conventions. He belonged to no lodges or other organizations.
Mr. Melugin was twice married. His first wife, to whom he was married in 1857, was a cousin of the widow who survives. Their maiden names were identical - Miss Mary Rickman.
Mr. Melugin was married the second time October 13, 1881. Besides Mrs. Melugin, eight children survive. The children are: S. T. Melugin who resides on the old homestead 12 miles east of Carthage; Will Melugin of Mancros, Colorado; Albert Melugin, who lives in California; Mrs. A. F. Poncot and Mrs. John Poncot, residing east of Carthage; Mrs. B. F. Henry, who resides north of this city; Mrs. H. E. Weideman of Joplin and Mrs. Hazel Robertson residing southwest of Carthage.
Funeral arrangements have not been made waiting word from relative at a distance, but services probably will be held at the old home, east of Carthage.

His Missouri Death Certificate reported that he was buried on March 12th and the services were under the direction of the Ulmer-Drake Funeral Home.
