of Mrs. Nicholas
Irvin Meadows, 58, Norfolk and Western Railway employee and a brother of Mrs. J. A. Nicholas of Harrisonburg, who was knocked down by a yard engine Tuesday night at Shenandoah City, died yesterday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Meadows suffered internal injuries, five broken ribs and head injuries. He was rushed to the hospital here immediately after the accident where his condition was pronounced as critical.
A yard brakeman, Mr. Meadows was working around the engine when the mishap occurred. Railway officials say the accident was unavoidable.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Shenandoah City Lutheran Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. C. L. Hunt. Interment will be in the Methodist Church Cemetery. The Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, of which Mr. Meadows was a member, will have charge of services at the grave.
Mr. Meadows was well-known in Shenandoah City where he had many friend and was highly respected. He was a native of Madison county, have moved to Shenandoah City when a young man. Since going there he had been in the employ of the Norfolk & Western, serving in various capacities.
He is survived by his widow, who is a native of Shenandoah City, one son - Irvin Meadows, Jr., of the United States Army, stationed in Honolulu; one daughter - Mrs. A. H. Tucker, of Washington; two brothers - Joel Meadows, of Shenandoah City and Vernon Meadows of Altoona, Pa. and four sisters - Mrs. J. A. Nicholas, of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Elizabeth Wright, of Greene county and two sister who live in Pennsylvania.
