James was the son of John W Hicks and Caroline Hendershot. He was the oldest of 5 siblings and 10 half-silbings. James married Mary Batey, their children were Anna, Rebecca and Mary.
James second wife was Emma Catherine Stacey. Their children were Golda May, John Samuel, Hazel Olive, James Hughes, Florence Alice, William Glenster, Leila Myrtle, Mary Frances, Theodore Edward, Ralph Darwin and Emmet Orvil and twin sons who died at birth.
Children Golda May Williams, Hazel Olive Decoster, Mary Frances Johann and William Glenster Hicks are buried in Golden Cemetery, Golden, Colorado.
Daughter Leila Myrtle Dickerson is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Daughter Anna Jane Boling is buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery, Clyde, Cloud County, Kansas.
