Joyce Virginia Singletary Nowell died at her home in Oklahoma City of congestive heart failure. She was born in Nashville, Berrien County, Georgia, the daughter of Hughie Arnold Singletary and Maggie (Ray) Singletary. Joyce had three siblings, Emory Singletary, David Singletary, and Darlene (Singletary) Caldwell. Joyce was a graduate of Reidland High School, Paducah, KY, class of 1956. She joined the Air Force in the Summer of 1956 and was trained as a Nurses Assistant. Joyce married Celolan Roy Nowell, of Soper, Oklahoma, on July 11, 1957, in Seguin, Texas. She was Honorably discharged from service in September of 1957. Together with Roy, she raised 4 children. She volunteered as a school librarian, coached a Little League baseball team, and achieved a teaching credential as a substitute teacher. She enjoyed rock hunting, painting, sewing, and crochet. With her children grown, she began a career in Civil Service at the Farmers Home Administration. Upon moving to Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 1979, she resumed her work with the Army at White Sands Missile Range, which ended with her retirement from the Army Materiel Command Acquisition Center, White Sands Missile Range Branch, in March of 1998, as a Procurement Technician. She moved to Oklahoma City in the spring of 2002 to be nearer to her grand-children. Joyce devoted herself to genealogy research and compiled an impressive body of information. Joyce leaves three sons, one daughter, and two daughters-in-law, Brian and Maria Nowell of Oklahoma City, Michael Alan and Gwen Nowell of Plant City, Florida, Laurel Ann Nowell of Phoenix, Arizona, and John Hugh Nowell of Oklahoma City; six grand-children, and 1 great-grand-child. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Celolan Roy Nowell in August, 1998 and one brother, Emory Singletary in 1981. The Lords Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever. Amen
