From Teagarden Book - Vogt 1988
WWII, US Army ground forces in Europe for 3 years. A professional musician who started out in Jack's first full-size dance band in 1939--- "one of the finest musicians in the business"; later a trumpet player in the Paul Whitman Band; with Tommy Dorsey' Orchestra in 1948.
A 1953 review: "..Jack Teagarden and his wonderful combo opened their first engagement at Lou Posey' Frolics. Mr. Trombone was as expected --overwhelming - but guess who overshadowed him: his brother, Charlie, on trumpet. Never has Charlie sounded more brilliant... with that big, fat sprawling, lazy, irreproachable tone of Jack's it was just a matter of how soon the crowd would succumb to the Teagarden barters' touch. Between Jack and Charlie is about 62 years of horn and music comes from the heart...."
From Charles obituary in the Dec. 12, 1984 Las Vegas Sun:
...During his Las Vegas performing years in the 1960's and early 1970's, he was a business agent (for) the Musicians Local 369. Before his death he served on the union's board of directors. Charles Tea-'s career included playing with the famed bands formed by Paul Whiteman, Tommy Dorsey and Jerry James. When he came to Las Vegas he formed his own band that played at the Silver Slipper, where he was often joined by other Strip entertainers. he also made many recordings of his own as well as with other groups throughout his career, Critics said he was known for his lyrical style on the trumpet because of his great range and control....
Charles retired from the music field and began a career in politics. He died in Las Vegas Dec. 10 1984 at the age of 71.
