Grandpa Crouch married for the first time when he was 42. His wife was basically 22 years younger.

He had a hare lip that he covered up with a mustache his adult life and his sister Maude was a twin. For some reason, the birth date on her headstone is WRONG. His is correct.

He built a fine home 3 miles west of Chireno on the Old Spanish Highway. It was the center of many functions in the area and they often housed visiting preachers, as well as numerous other family members. Especially his wife's family taking in some of her younger siblings to live with them.

Unfortunately, the new owners of the land allowed that old home to go into disrepair in the 1990's and it was sadly and shockingly torn down around 2007?

Their home, "Crouch Hill" was the highest elevation mark in Nacogdoches county. There used to be a brass survey marker from the US along the fence-line. Sadly, that too was stolen around 2007.

He was a farmer as well as carpenter by trade. He actually built what was known as the Bethel School house in the area. He also served as a trustee for the schools in Chireno.

He died Christmas Day 1957.
