January 2001, Howard and Alva moved from their home in California, where they had lived for many years, to Wisconsin to be close to Alva's family.
Howard and Alva lived in the comforts of their own home until mid 2003, when their health required them to need help. They lived at Comforts of Home, St Croix Falls, WI. Howard suffered a heart attack on Jan 9, and passed away January 12, 2004 at the St. Croix Falls Medical Center.

Howard W. Parmenter, of St. Croix Falls, Wis., formerly of Los Altos, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at St. Croix Regional Medical Center, at the age of 83.
Howard was born Feb. 29, 1920, to Charles and Emma Parmenter, in Mitchell, Nebraska. He attended Lyman High School, where he was active in drama and sports, graduating in 1939. Howard married Alva Florida Kallman July 5, 1946, and they enjoyed 57 years together. Howard retired from Santa Clara County in 1981. After retirement he spent his time painting, carving, singing, playing guitar and listening to music. Howard and Alva moved to St. Croix Falls in January 2001 to be closer to family.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Hazel, Marion (Peewee), Charles, Mailla, Austin and William.
He is survived by his wife, Alva; several Parmenter nieces and nephews in Nebraska and California; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Frank and Ruth Boatman; sisters-in-law: Vivian Kallman and Annie Kallman; and many nieces and nephews on the Kallman side.
Visitation was Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the Grandstrand Funeral Home, in Osceola, Wis., followed by graveside services, officiated by Rev. Ron Hackman at Kahbakong Cemetery, in Taylors Falls. Music was provided by Miriam Hackman and Roger Danielson.
