"Memorial services for John Haase, born Oct 24, 1877, in Kulm, Russia, were held from the United Congregational Church on Thursday morning, July 15, 1971. Mr Haase died on July 12, at the age of 93. He had been a resident of a Spokane rest home for the past eight years. Rev B M Schafer officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in the Odessa Cemetery. John Haase was baptized and confirmed in Russia in the Congregational tradition. He came to the United States in 1902 and resided in the Odessa area, either on a farm or in town until his taking residence in Spokane. He was a member of the UCC, aiding in the construction of the present facility. Mr Haase was united in marriage in 1905 on Sept 6, to Lydia Yanke. Five sons and four daughters were born to this union. One son, Clarence, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; sons Otto of Spokane, Harold of Casa Grande, Arizona, Harvey of Odessa and Weldon of Issaquah; daughters, Hilda Millhorn of Spokane, Elsie Bartalamay and Esther Schlimmer of Odessa, Delora Yanke of Camp, CA; 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; one sister, Ida Hemmerling of Ephrata."(Odessa record: 22 July 1971)

"Out of town friends and relatives attending the John Haase funeral last week included Mr and Mrs Otto Haase, Douglas and Bruce Vestal, Mr and Mrs Melvin Haase and Brian, Mr and Mrs Charlie Millhorn, Mrs Robert Lehman and family, Mrs Merril Swartz and girls, Mr and Mrs John Millhorn and family, Adeline Luce and Mr and Mrs Gust Frieske, all of Spokane; Mr and Mrs Harlin Millhorn, Colville; Mr and Mrs Chet Yanke, Campo, CA; Harold Haase, Casa Grande, AZ; Mr and Mrs August Pfeifer, Wilson Creek; and Mr and Mrs Fred Hemmerling, Ephrata."(Odessa Record: 22 July 1971)
