SURVIVOR OF CANCER...THEN JUST A YEAR LATER, SHE PASSED AWAY FROM THE RESULT OF TWO STROKES AND RHUMETOID ARTHRITIS.
OBIT:
Gladys Wilma Holder West, age 82, of Sanford, died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, Friday, November 27, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. West was born in Harnett County on September 17, 1927, to the late Lonnie and Lola Holder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Arnold B. Holder and Franklin M. Holder.
Surviving relations include her beloved husband of 63 years Willard Lee West of Sanford; two sons, Major General Randall L. West and wife Robin of Marshall, VA and Michael L. West and wife Lois of Sanford. Daughter Linda West Wooten and husband Larry of Clayton. Brother Paul Holder of Raleigh. Sisters Ruby Lee Haskins of Creedmoor, Ruth Reavis of Greensboro and Rita Holder of Madison, IL. 13 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. West was a faithful member of Flat Springs Baptist Church for over 40 years and a humble and loving christian of deep faith. She served as a Sunday School teacher, a G.A. leader, Vacation Bible School Worker and an officer in the Women's Missionary Union.
Visitation will be held Monday night, November, 30, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Flat Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Funeral will be conducted Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Flat Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall West and Dr. Gary McCollough presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
