The son of John and Eleanor Godfrey Kinnaird he was born in Jasper County and received his education in rural Jasper and Marshall county schools.
He was married to Hattie Mae Benskin on November 20, 1935 at Laurel, Iowa. They lived at Laurel and Wesley where he was self-employed as a trucker. He later farmed near Grinnell and Searsboro. In February 1955 he began work as a quality-control inspector at the Maytag Company retiring in 1977. He and Hattie were divorced and he married Hilda Goodwin December 28, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their home in Newton.
Donald moved to St Francis Manor in August of 1988. He is survived by his wife Hilda. Five sons, Wayne, Wendell, Earl, William and Jerry. Three daughters, Donna, Joan and Judy.
