SYBIL WEST
Another one of our good pioneer women passed away last Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, when Mrs. Sybil West quietly breathed her last. She had been ill but a few days with pneumonia and her death was a great shock to her relatives and friends.
Miss Sybil Cooper was born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, April 17, 1817. She was united in marriage on April 18, 1837, to H. R. West, who died in this city in September, 1890.
To them were born seven children, six of whom are living, Mrs. Belle Shroyer and Price West, of Hopkins, Missouri; Jesse of New Windsor, Illinois; Mrs. Jane Litzenbarker, of Sunbeam, Illinois; Mrs. Julia Arnold, of Davenport; and J. R. West, of this city, all of whom, with the exception of Mrs. Arnold, were present at the last sad rites.
Mrs. West came to this county twenty-eight years ago and during her long residence here has established a nobel character. At an early age she was converted and united with the Christian church and has been a devoted member ever since.
Her amiable disposition, her kind and generous nature, her cordial and pleasant manner, made for her many friends. The book is finished and sealed, the pages are all completed, and some of them are over full, for this good woman lived a quiet home life, doing whatsoever her hands found to do.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Harold E. Monser, were held at the Christian church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which a large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the Chariton cemetery.
May the kind Father in His infinite wisdom, comfort and sustain the children in their sorrow, and may they strive to emulate the example of their now sainted mother.
