Ammon was the son of Jacob L. Kohler and Cordelia Deisher.
He married on March 13, 1886, to Lizzie M. Acker.
They appear in the 1900 and 1910 census of Greenwich Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer.
In 1920 they were in Fleetwood Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was a house carpenter.

Reading Eagle, 2/23/1922:
FORMER KUTZTOWN HOTELMAN– while tying his horse at the public stables of the Keystone House, Ammon J. Kohler, aged 58 years, 9 months and 22 days, was stricken with acute gastritis and heart failure and sank to the ground. Several men who were standing near by carried Mr. Kohler into the office of the shed adjoining the hotel; where he expired in a few minutes. Deputy coroner Dr. H. W. Saul and he issued a certificate of death due to natural causes. About eight years ago Mr. Kohler was proprietor of the Fairground Hotel this borough. Two years later he became proprietor of the Blandon House, Blandon. For the last four he had been living retired at his home, Walnut and White Oak streets. The deceased was the son of the late Jacob S. and Cadilla (nee Deisher) Kohler and was a carpenter by trade. He was well known and belonged to the fallowing organizations; Kutztown Aerie, No. 839; F. O. E.; Kutztown Fire Co. No. 1; St. John's Lutheran church, all of this borough and of the Orioles, Fleetwood. The following survive, Widow, Lizzie M. (nee Acker); son harry; sisters, Ellen, wife of Howard Merkel; Agnes, wife of Edwin Merkel; Clara, wife of Oscar Rothermel; all of town; Annie, wife of Isaac Rollman, Fleetwood; brothers, George, Philadelphia and Alvin, Reading. Funeral, Monday , Feb. 27, at 2 p. m. from his home. Further services in St. John's Lutheran church. Rev. J. B. Bittner, of town will officiate. Interment will be made in Hope cemetery. Undertaker, Jacob H. Stump, this borough has charge.
