Born Sept. 13, 1913, in Advance, son of the late William L. and Marie Proffer Thrower, he had worked for the International Shoe Factory for 43 years. He and his late wife, Mildred, owned and operated Thrower Shoe Repair and Shoes for 33 years.
He was a member of the Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, a 50-year member of the Sikeston Masonic Lodge No. 310 and a Royal Arch mason. He served in the 140th Infantry of the Missouri National Guard.
On Aug. 19, 1934, in Blytheville, Ark., he married Mildred Baker who preceded him in death on March 21, 2002.
The oldest of nine children, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Marion H. Thrower, William L. Thrower, Canto S. Thrower and Simon R. Thrower; and two sisters, Ruth Smith and Margaret Smith. Also preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Timothy Alan Thrower and Shawna Lee Thrower, and one great-grandchild, Madaline Walstrom.
He is survived by: one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Newman; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Nancy Thrower, Jerry Thrower, and Michael and Shelley Thrower; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elmina and Duke Iseley, and Flora Bell Ray and Chuck Webber; and seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at the Ponder Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where services will be held with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Newman, Duane Anderson, Cody Anderson, Dennis Thrower, Steve Fair and David Cox.
Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Newman, Jamie Newman and Ben Newman.
