Marie was born June 3, 1915 in Mendota, the daughter of George W. and Margaret (Ehrsam) Elsesser. On Nov. 7, 1953 she married Harry L. Allen in Mendota. When she graduated from Mendota High School in 1933 she was the recipient of the Myra J. Howes Award for being and outstanding student. She also participated on the Debate Team. Marie was a Charter Member of Faith Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Women's E.L.C.A. and taught Sunday school for many years.
Her survivors include one son, Mark (Peggy) Allen, Rockford; one daughter, Mary (Mike) Scalcucci, Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Trudy (Jim) Armstrong, Mendota; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her husband; four brothers, Harold, Albert, George and Kenneth Elsesser; and three sisters, Minnie Childers, Elizabeth and Helen Elsesser, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 14206 E. Flagg Road, Rochelle, with the pastor, Rev. Christopher T. Beamsley officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memory Gardens, Rochelle. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, 704 N. Sixth St., Rochelle.
Memorials have benn established for Faith Lutheran Church and Mendota Lutheran Home.
