Waynesville - John Roy Carver, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Nathan and Elizabeth Carver. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his wife, Marguerite Clark Carver who died in 1978; his son, John Dee Carver who died in 1988; and a brother, Ned Carver. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II having served in Austria and Germany. His career included working in the US Postal System and owning an insurance business. He also managed the ABC store where he retired after 15 years of service. He was a farmer and cattleman for many years.

John was a past president of the Waynesville Jaycees, past president of the Waynesville American Legion Post #47, Past President of the Waynesville Lions Club, Former Chairman of the Haywood County Election Board and also was past Chairman of the ABC Board. He attended Waynesville United First Methodist Church for 60 years and was a member most recently of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He loved to garden, spend time with his family, and talk with friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Betty James Perry of Waynesville and Rita Barnhardt of Columbus, Ga.; four grandchildren, Amy Brauchle of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., John James of Miami, Fla., Kim Youngman of Waynesville, Andrew Barnhardt of Sarasota, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 3570 Jonathan Creek Road, with the Rev. Tom Tout officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Garrett Funeral Home. The burial will be at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
