MRS. NANCY BROYLES
---Sunday, July 22, 1906, at 1:15 a.m., Mrs. Nancy Broyles experienced her triumphant entrance to the Higher Life by the event called death. She had been in ill health for some time; the fatal disease proved to be an internal cancerous nature.
---Mrs. Broyles was born in Randolph County, Missouri in the spring of 1835. Her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Leo McDavitt, as well as the family of N. Broyles, her husband, were among the early settlers in Macon county.
---To her father and mother were born nine children, one died in infancy. Her four brothers, Thomas W., Asa W., Dr. B.C. and William H. McDavitt, and her three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Dale, Mrs. Ellen Boydsun and Mrs. Mary Patrick, are the surviving members of her immediate family; besides these she left a large circle of relatives, most of whom live in Macon county. The McDavitts and Broyles have been known in this county for two or three generations. They have not only been long and favorably known, but their honor and integrity, their industry and generousity, their patriotism and religious fidelity have earned for them, in each generation, the respect and confidence of their fellow citizens and neighbors.
---Mr. and Mrs. Broyles were married August 12, 1858 and were within two short years of their Golden Wedding. The tears and grace of God had borne their lives on the higher tides of the spirit which reveals the eternal home as that for which all things exist.
---Mr. Broyles and wife came to La Plata from their farm near the Chariton several years ago. Mr. Broyles has been the honored President of the Bank of La Plata continuously ever since locating here. He and his wife have made a host of true friends. To him the whole community has expressed their deepest sympathy.
---The funeral of Mrs. Broyles was conducted Monday, July 22, at ten o'clock from the residence. The following order of services was observed: Hymn, "Nearer My God To Thee," double quartet, 1 Cor. 13 chapter and John 14 chapter, Dr. L.B. Fisher biography, Rev. G.E. Cunningham, Sermon, Dr. R.B. Fisher, Hymn, "Abide With Me," double quartet. Benediction, Rev. James C. Acutt. The ritual at the grave, The Eastern Star Order, Benediction, Dr. Fisher.
---The spirit and impressiveness of the music, the prayers, the scriptural readings, the sermon and the Eastern Star ritual gave a sustained spiritual and comforting touch and power to the whole service. Dr. Fisher's sermon was a worthy tribute to Mrs. Broyles' noble spirit and generous heart as was that of her pastor. Dr. Fisher referred touchingly to the immortal good which Mr. and Mrs. Broyles have provided by their gift of a scholarship to Lombard College. He dwelt eloquently on the divine certitude to immortality and the heavenly estate to which the beautiful woman had passed in whose honor these services were held.
