HOUSTON – Vera Evaleen Holland Burgess Murphree, age 78, died Friday, Dec. 1, 1995 at Hillcrest Hospital in Calhoun City following a stroke. Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 3 at Thorn Church of God. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Samples officiating.
The daughter of the late Louie Ellis Holland and the late Jennie Green Charles, she was born Aug. 14, 1917. She was the widow of the late Mitchell Burgess and the late Gladys Murphree and was a homemaker and member of Thorn Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Odell Burgess and Leon Burgess, both of Houlka; one daughter Shirley Haire of Bruce; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and seven stepchildren.
Houston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
