Shirley Jean (Adwell) Ford, Abingdon Chapel
79 of Galesburg, died at 7:30 am Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on September 1, 1930 in Warren County to Harry and Lucille (Isenberg) Adwell. She married Charles "Eldon" Ford on July 12, 1962 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1985.
Shirley is survived by her sister-in-law, Donnalee Adwell of Bremen, Alabama; a niece, Myra (and Herb) Lloyd of Bremen, Alabama; a nephew, Gale (and Joyce) Adwell of Galesburg, Illinois; five great nieces, Amy (and Hugh) Askins, Sara (and Sam) Sullivan, Kyla Adwell, Rebekah Lloyd and Emilee Lloyd; a great nephew, Jasen Adwell; three great-great nieces, Faith, Angel and Abigail; and a great-great nephew, Gavin.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Russel Edward Adwell, Harry Leslie Adwell and James Herman Adwell.
Shirley was raised in the rural farming area of Abingdon. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1948. Shirley devoted her life to her husband, home and family.
She worked at the Abingdon Brass Factory and later at a bank in Farmington, Illinois. She and her husband lived in several states, moving with the coal company. She enjoyed crappy fishing and boating with her husband. They also golfed and bowled together for many years. Shirley took pride in her home and keeping in touch with family and high school classmates. She was an avid sports fan and St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Berwick Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
