"MRS. ALICE E. BALTHROPE DEAD"

"Mrs. Alice E. Balthrope, aged 77, born near Covington, Ky., died yesterday morning. The Balthrope family moved here about 35 years ago, and were pioneers of that period when there was a movement of prominient families from Missouri to the Coast. Three sons and a daughter came with Mr. and Mrs. Balthrope and took an active part in commercial and social life of Biloxi. There was a marked growth of the city at that time and they aided in the progress of Biloxi. Mrs. Balthrope lived a conscientious Christian life and shortly after coming here identified herself with the church life of the city and during her long life she has been a fine example of Christian life. She was a member of the Baptist choir until very recently and her sweet alto voice will be missed. Her death was rather sudden but she has been prepared and was conscious of its approach and as death drew near her faith was very beautiful to those who witnessed her passing. Her husband died ten years ago and her only daughter, Mrs. Tom Ligon, died in early married life and two of her sons, Harvey and William, went back to Missouri where they entered college and studied for a dental career and entered business there and in Kansas. E. S. Balthrope of Biloxi remained here and his mother has been with him and his family most of the time since the husband's death about ten years ago. Her sons will be here to attend the funeral. A grandson, E. C. Balthrope of Vicksburg, has arrived. Dr. A. G. Moseley of Birmingham will be here to perform funeral ceremonies. He is a life long friend of hers. The body will be at the home of Mr. Balthrope at 1224 W. Beach until the funeral which will take place tomorrow. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Thursday, afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Baptist Church."
