He was educated at Wiscasset schools. He entered in the Army in 1942, where he served for the Company B 711th Tank Battalion until 1946, earning the rank of sergeant.
On Dec. 9, 1952, he married Barbara E. Merry. He was employed for Central Maine Power Co. for 33 years, retiring in December 1984 as an assistant boiler operator.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara E. Abbott, on Aug. 31, 2002; one sister, Elizabeth "Bet" Lewis and her husband, Leavitt; one brother, George Abbott; and two brothers-in-law, J. Gordon Merry and James Merry and his wife, Margie.
He is survived by one son, Roland Abbott and his girlfriend, Kate Merryman, of Wiscasset; two daughters, Lynn Lincoln and her husband, Robert, of Wiscasset, and Lorie Johnson, of Randolph; one brother, John Abbott, of Damariscotta; three sisters-in-law, Jane LaBourdais and her husband, Blinn, Marion Abbott and Ann Merry, all of Wiscasset; 10 grandchildren, Amy, Kristy, Shari, Michele, Randy Jr., Heather, Jamie, Mandy, Doug and Shelby; 14 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jasmyne, Taylor, Thomas, Mason, Collin, Michelle, Chelsea, Tiffiny, Andrew, Damon, Brooke, Skyla and Riley; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
