At the Celebration of her Centennial Birthday in 1915, a biography of Elsie [McKinzie] Blevins was printed that said:
Elsie Blevins, daughter of John and Mary McKenzie, was born in Gallia County, Ohio, January 30, 1815. Her childhood and youth was passed at her birthplace with the exception of one season which they spent in Indiana on the Wabash river. After driving many days through the Wilderness, as Indiana was then called, they came to a little Indian village where Indianapolis now stands. Here Mrs. Blevins, then a little girl of six or seven years, saw her first Indians. These Indians with their red blankets and strange ways greatly frightened little Elsie, and she never forgot it. Indianapolis at this time had nothing but log cabins.
Her parents went back to Ohio, but in 1832 returned to Indiana and settled in Hamilton county near Noblesville.
May 2, 1833 she was married to Stephen Blevins. There was born to them nine children, seven sons and two daughters, one daughter died in infancy. The other eight children lived to be grown, except one son who died at the age of twelve. Two sons enlisted in the Civil War and died during the war. She has only three children living. She was the mother of nine children, thirty-eight grand children, fifty seven great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Blevins lived in Indiana until 1876 when they moved to Warrensburg, Missouri. Two years later they moved to Harrisonville, Missouri, where her husband died. After the death of her husband Mrs. Blevins lived with her daughter, Olive (Mrs. J. W. Baker) until 1886 when she made her home with her son, Barney B. Blevins. In 1906 they moved to Eldorado Springs, Missouri, where she now lives.
At the age of twenty-six she joined the Christian church. A year later she and her husband united with the Methodist church near Boxleytown, Indiana. Her name had been on the Methodist class book for eighty-three years. She is the only one living of a family of ten children.
