MR. JOSEPH E. BOOTEN, 83, of Huntington, passed away at his residence on Monday, February 2, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Forest Cummings, private burial will follow. Mr. Booten and his brother were the co-owners of Tradewell Supermarket on 16th Street. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in WWII. He was a lifetime member of Mount Union United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He was born on May 9, 1920 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Asa Doliver and Missouri Smith Booten. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Asa, Ralph and Jack and three sisters: Gladys Thomas, Louise Mooring, and Ruth Newman. He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Osa Pyles Booten; three children and their spouses: Mary Beth and Bobby Evans of Hillsborough, N.C., John Mark and Jenny Booten of Huntington, and Karen Joan and Zane Jackson of Morganton, N.C.; nine grandchildren: Joshua, Joseph and Quinlan Booten, Baxter and Ryan Fuller, Melissa Sharpe, Shea Nesbitt, Cody and Cole Evans; one great-granddaughter, Sarah Sharpe; two brothers-in-law, Pierce and I.J. Pyles; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mount Union United Methodist Church and Hospice of Huntington. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 5th floor at the VA Medical Center.
