George's parents were Peter Young & Catherine (Hollenback) Young.

A court record from Hampshire Co., VA where his grandmother wrote his date of birth as August 7, 1802 when she turned over his guardianship to Frederick Sheetz so he could learn the art of gunsmith.

He married Elizabeth Nicholson on 10 Mar 1824 in Hampshire Co., VA. The had 8 children, 4 born in VA, their daughter, is reported to be born both in 1837 in VA and PA, and the 3 youngest were born in Illinois after 1839.

George Young & his wife's brother, William Hollenback, and a good friend, Frederick Sheetz were all gunsmith's and their long rifles are highly prized by collectors today.

George died on 20 Jan 1875 in Perry Co., IL.

A few years after George's death, probably about 1876-77, his youngest living son, Hanson A., moved his family out to Los Angeles County, CA. The rest of the family moved out to join him bit by bit. Their mother was the last and was still in Perry Co. IL on the 1880 census, but she died in 1888 and is buried at Santa Ana Cemetry in Orange Co., CA.
