Willie was the adopted son of the Hillix's. His biological parents were Isaac and Mary Jane Foster.


W. P. Hillix, who spent his boyhood and early manhood in Nemaha county, moved from here and served in prominent positions in Colorado and Wisconsin, died January 7 in Winter Park, Florida. He had passed the age of 98, and was privileged to enjoy good health until recent months.

Willie Price Hillix, 98, passed away in Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Winter Park, Florida, Wednesday, January 7, 1959.

He was born August 22, 1860 to Isaac and Mary Foster near Jamestown, Virginia. The family soon moved to St. Joseph, Mo. During a smallpox epidemic his father, mother and two sisters died. He was then adopted by Henry and Mary Hillix. They moved to Nemaha County, Kansas, where they settled on a farm near Seneca. He spent his boyhood and early manhood on this farm.

In 1883 he was married to Clara Zenetta Mieir, and in 1897 he and his wife and two children moved to Florence, Colorado, where he operated a cigar and novelty store. In 1909 he became Deputy County Assessor. He sold his store and moved to the county seat at Canon City, Colorado.

In 1915 he was appointed Registrar and Business Manager of Stout Institute at Menominie, Wisconsin, a position he held for a number of years. He and his wife were members of the Congregational church. His wife preceded him in death, passing away in 1923.

After his retirement he made his home with his daughter and husband, Dr. and Mrs. C. Max Bauer of Yellowstone Park, Wyoming and now of Winter Park, Florida.

He is survived by a son, Foster F. Hillix of Cleveland, Ohio, and a daughter, Mrs. Clara Hillix Bauer, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, January 10, at the Cox-Parger Funeral Home at Orlando, Florida, conducted by Rev. Oswald Delgado.
