Son of Archibald and Susan B., nee Ware, Collings. He is listed on the 1850 census with his parents in Spencer County, Kentucky.
In the 1860 census he and his brother, Dr. William O. Collings, are listed as living with the Elizah Pound family in Linton Township, Vigo County. His brother married a week later.
Benjamin was listed as a Student of Medicine in this census. He married Minerva two years later and just after their first anniversary he was killed in or near Terra Haute. See the posted newspaper article furnished by another contributor.
There is no record at this time of his place of burial, but I believe he may be buried in an unmarked grave in the Second Prairie Creek Cemetery in Vigo County. It is logical that his brother, Dr. William, would have him buried where he had buried his first wife Mercy. Also, the father Archibald visited Dr. William in 1868 and died while visiting. The doctor buried his father in the same cemetery.
