In 'The Dickeys' by W. E. Dickey, he writes:
'Hamilton Crockett Dickey was the next known child of James Ross Dickey and his wife, Polly. Hamilton C. Dickey was born in Giles County, Tennessee around 1829. Around 1849 he went to Newton County, Arkansas and he was living with his sister, Elizabeth Dodson, and her husband Isaiah at the time of the 1850 census.
On March 13, 1852 Hamilton C. Dickey married Alabama Payne who was born in Arkansas around 1836. As listed in the 1870 census of Newton county, Arkansas, their children were; Alonzo L., born around 1853; John H., born around 1855; Alfred R., born around 1857; James S. , born around 1859; Mary E., born around 1861; Margaret, born around 1863; Lydia, born around 1865; Martha J., born around 1867; and Frank, born around 1869. Elizabeth married John Dean, Lydia married a Roane, and Margaret (Maggie) married John Edwards. All of these children of Hamilton C. and Alabama Dickey were born in Arkansas.
Hamilton C. Dickey was a charter member of Dodson Masonic Lodge, No. 135, Cave Creek, Newton County, Arkansas. He served with the Union Army in the Civil War as a member of the Second Regiment, Arkansas Cavalry volunteers, Company D. He was a private. Hamilton C. Dickey was postmaster at Cave Creek, Arkansas from June 22, 1875 until August 28, 1878. He was sheriff of Newton County from 1858 until 1862 and a member of the Arkansas State Legislature 1866-1867. he died April 6, 1890.
Hamilton C. (Hamp) Dickey applied for a pension in 1889 because of rheumatism due to service in 1865, according to his service records. In 1890 his widow, Alabama Dickey, applied for a widow's pension. She stated that Hamilton C. DIckey had died on April 6, 1890. Included with her application was an Affidavit from a former Justice of the Peace, stating that he had married Hamilton C. Dickey and Alabama Payne on March 13, 1852 and that the record had been destroyed during the late Rebellion. Along with these records there was included a record stating that Alabama Dickey was dropped from the pension rolls because of death and that she had died on August 21, 1898.
Hamilton C. Dickey is buried in the Bill McCutcheon Cemetery on Cave Creek in Newton County, Arkansas.
