Obituary of Thomas Jefferson Beck

Thomas Jefferson Beck was born near Agency, Buchanan Co, January 21, 1861. His parents were David Land and Martha Ann Beck. He was the youngest son and next to the youngest child in a family of six children. He grew to young manhood in the community where he was born.
When he was 25 years of age he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Ann Tuck. The date of the wedding was September 20, 1886. Soon after their marriage the young couple came to Cass County, locating in the vicinity of Raymore. Most of the remainder of his life was spent in the northwest part of the county near Raymore & Peculiar. Six years ago the family moved to a farm near Lone Tree. In the spring of the present year the family came to Harrisonville where he lived out the rest of his days. Wed. morning, July 8, at 8:30 o'clock, while sitting in his chair at the family home, 906 West Washington St., he quickly dropped his head and his mortal soul slipped away to the better world.
Mr. Beck became the father of two children, both daughters. One of these died in infancy. The other one Mrs. Thomas (Lula) Fitzmaurice of Harrisonville and Cheyenne, WY, survives. Besides his companion of the home he leaves behind one sister, Mrs. Mary Stevens of Bethany and one granddaughter, Martha Lou Fitzmaurice. Other relatives mourn his passing and numerous friends.
About 25 years ago, Mr. Beck accepted the Christian faith, and in this belief, to the end. He claimed many friends who will remember him as a kind, loyal, steady and industrious man. He had a fondness for young people that increased in intensity through the years.
Friends & neighbors extend to the sorrowing family their sincere sympathy.
The funeral service was held at the Baptist Church in Peculiar, Saturday morning, July 11 at 10:30 o'clock, being conducted by the writer. Burial was in the Peculiar cemetery.
