Frank Prikryl's Funeral Services Held Friday

Funeral services for Frank William Prikryl, 67, were held at the Church of the Assumption Saturday, June 13, at 9:30 a.m. Msgr. I.J. Valenta officiated, assisted by Rev. James Quilter and Rev. W. Bockholt. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the residence, 207 W. Elm St., West. Aderhold-Moore Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Prikryl was the son of Anton and Josephine Malik Prikryl who came to this country from Czechoslovakia about 74 years ago. The family first settled between Granger and Taylor where Frank was born.

Anton Prikryl brought his family to West when Frank was 7 years old and engaged in the shoe cobbler trade until his death four years later.

Frank be3gan his business career serving as a clerk in Old Corner Drug Store when it was operated by Frank Skrivanek. He also worked for J.L. Walker Grocery, G.P. Helton Grocery, Little Frenchman Die Works in Waco, and then came back to work at Old Corner Drug when it was operated by Coleman-Seat.

He set up West's first and only large-stocked newsstand in its present location on Oak Street in 1935, which he operated until July 1957, when he retired.

His wife, the former Albina Milberger before their marriage in 1912, died in August 1955. She was affectionately known as Sue, and worked with Frank in the newsstand for many years.

His son, Robert Prikryl, now of Seguin, and his daughter, Mrs. Lucille Kubacak, also assisted in the newsstand.

Mr. Prikryl was a member of the West Church of Assumption and the SPJST Lodge.

He is survived by his son and daughter and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were E.J. Jerabek, Raymond Hruska, Charlie Smajstrla, Joe Smajstrla, Frank Seith, and J.F. Holasek.
