Mrs. F.G. Gerik, Age 75, Dies

Mrs. F.G. (Lydia) Gerik, age 75, died Sunday afternoon, February 6, 1977, in the West Community Hospital.

Rosary was recited Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church; Rev. William Benish as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mrs. Gerik was born November 7, 1901 in Waco but had lived most of her life in West. On November 25, 1920, she married Frank G. Gerik in West.

In the fall of 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Gerik went into the plumbing and electrical business and later became associated with selling Frigidaire and other appliances. In 1956 Mr. Gerik needed assistance because there was more than he could handle So, his son, Freddy, gave up a government job in appliance and TV work in Dallas and moved back to West. In 1962 Freddy completely bought the business from his mother and father, however, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gerik continued to work and help their son with the business.

Mrs. Gerik was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, the Ladies Altar Society and KJZT Society No. 11. She was a charter member of West Community Ladies Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of America. For the last 10 years she served as secretary-treasurer of the local National Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Alfred E. (Freddy) Gerik of West; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Lee (Jo Ann) Gerik of West; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
