Luceal Carolyn Schumacher, 91, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa.
Luceal was born on June 11, 1918 to John and Amanda (Huebner) Wehling in rural Readlyn. She was baptized June 30, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Readlyn and confirmed March 20, 1932 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Klinger. Luceal attended public and parochial schools in the Readlyn area through the eighth grade. She received her State of Iowa High School Equivalency Diploma, June 21, 1978 from Hawkeye Tech. She and Clarence J. Schumacher were united in marriage April 9, 1939 at St Paul Lutheran Church, Readlyn. Luceal worked at the Readlyn Telephone Company until the couple moved to Denver and then Dewar and back to Readlyn where they resided until moving to Waverly in 1958. In 2001 she became a resident of Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and has resided there since.
In Waverly Luceal was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and enjoyed Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and reading. She also loved to baby sit grandchildren and neighborhood children.
Survivors include two children; John (Carol) Schumacher of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and LeeAnn Toomey of Waukesha, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, John (Bahar) Toomey and David (Julie) Toomey, Kathleen (Bob) Selle, Dawn (Chuck)Webb, Deborah Schumacher and Darlene Schumacher; eleven great grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Sean, Kathryn and Nicolas Toomey, Mary and Makenzie Webb, and Anna, Erin, Kaitlin and Benjamin Selle; four brothers, Luvern and Raymond (Dorothy)Wehling of Sumner and Erwin (Lou) and Harold (Margaret) Wehling of Waterloo and sister-in-law, Paula Wehling at Bartels.
Luceal was preceded in death by her husband Clarence on October 23, 1979; her parents; three brothers, Roy, Lorenz and Arthur; and four sisters, Clara Bohle, Helena Oltrogge, Florence Kuker, and Bertha Strottman; and son-in-law, Gerard Toomey.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at St John Lutheran Church, in Waverly, Iowa with Pastor Matthew Versemann officiating. Friends may call on Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and one hour before Funeral services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly.
