FREDONIA - Roberta Taylor Smith, 88, Fredonia, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute. She was born June 27, 1915, in rural Kincaid, the daughter of Ferdinand Parks and Emma Taylor Marple.
She graduated from Kincaid High School in 1933 and attended Emporia State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate.
She taught school and worked as a grocery clerk and bookkeeper.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Helpful Neighbors Club and Independent "14" Club.
On April 19, 1936, she married James Edgar Hydorn in Virgil. He died May 16, 1946.
On June 12, 1948, she married Paul C. Smith in Eureka. He died Jan. 27, 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Gillett, Neodesha; a son, Lewis E. Hydorn, Dunnegan, Mo.; a step-son, Arthur Smith, Lockport, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at First United Methodist Church, Fredonia, led by the Rev. W. Lawrence Grove. Burial will be in Kincaid Cemetery at 1 p.m.
