Ellen Edna Schierholt Huckriede, 87, of St. Marys, Ohio, died on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Otterbein Retirement Community on Grand Lake St. Marys. She was born July 17th, 1925, in New Bremen, Ohio, the daughter of Emma (Heitman) and Frank Schierholt who preceded her in death. She was married to Earl Huckriede on December 12, 1944, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen.

She is survived by three daughters: Connie (Don) Burgess, St. Marys, Jennifer (Stephen) Hays, Celina, and Christine (Ken) Koverman, St. Marys. Her sister, Melba Idle, survives in Wapakoneta, Ohio. She has six grandchildren: Laura Hays (Mike) Sursi, Mooresville, N.C., Luke (Karyn) Hays, Cornelius, N.C., Ryan (Amy) Burgess, Columbus, Ohio, Kevin (Kasie) Burgess, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Angela (Shane) McCollum, St. Marys, and John Koverman, Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband who passed away March 15, 2011, her parents, twin sister Helen Schierholt, two sisters Carmine Schaefer and Edna Nieter and two brothers Willis Schierholt and Dennis Schierholt.

She graduated from New Bremen High School in 1943. She retired from Joint Township District Memorial Hospital after 21 years in patient accounts. She was a very active member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.

Her pastimes included reading and doing puzzles. She enjoyed boating, fishing and camping in Michigan. Ellen was an avid basketball fan, especially Ohio State. She took tremendous pleasure and special interest in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Earl enjoyed traveling all over the country and abroad to Germany.

Visitation with the family will be held at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, Ohio on Thursday, February 14, from 3pm to 7pm and one hour before the funeral service starting at 9:30am.

Funeral service will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys on Friday, February 15 at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. Ed Bray officiating. Graveside services will be in New Bremen at the German Protestant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, St. Marys or Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys. Condolences to the family may be left at gilberghartwigfh.com.
