Sgt. Hatch died at McCook Hospital, Red Willow County, Nebraska. Death was caused by a dive into a shallow swimming pool, breaking his neck. He was a graduate of Placer Union High School with the class of 1942. He worked at McClellan Field, Sacramento, as a mechanic before enlisting in the US Army in April 1943. He graduated from Harlingen Flexible Gunnery School, Texas, in November 1943. He had been serving as a ground instructor at the McCook Air Field at the time of his fatal accident. He was survived by his wife Joyce Hatch, an infant son Darrell Ernest Hatch, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Dan H. Hatch, and his sister Charlotte Murch.
