Mowrystown Recollections: John L. Gray

John Lytle Gray, born Oct. 24, 1822 at Ripley, Ohio, married Lucinda Runyon at Sardinia, Ohio on April 20, 1845. She was the daughter of Stout D. and Dorothy C. Graham Runyon. John was a brick mason by trade in addition to his farming. I believe that he was living at Mt. Orab in Brown County, Ohio for a time before going to Illinois. By the 1870 Census, he shows up in Tarkio, Missouri where he appears through the 1900 Census. He died there on Sept. 20, 1905 at age 82.
Lucinda Runyon Gray, born in 1824, died at Tarkio in 1897.
The Grays had eight children, and the second-oldest, Lemuel Wilson Gray, born Feb. 14, 1846, married Sarah E. Gibler March 21, 1872. She was born Sept. 9, 1845 in Dodson Twp., Highland Co., Ohio to William and Caroline Spickard Gibler. They died in Tarkio, he in 1926 and she in 1928.
