Daughter of Andrew B. Hale and Elizabeth L. Beach

Married Fredrick Shatto 1861
Children:
Mabel Evelyn Shatto - 18 March 1862
Alfred Preston "Alf" Shatto - 6 September 1865

Hannah's parents moved from Illinois to Waterford, Dakota County, Minnesota where in 1860 they are engaged in farming - Hannah a school girl. She grew up on the often unsettled Minnesota frontier.

After marriage she lived with her husband, Frederick, a grocer, in Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota. September 7, 1876, her sister Theressa and brother-in-law Ed Bill had just entered Fred's store with their two daughters when gunfire erupted outside. Ed Bill grabbed a pistol and went out to engage what turned out to be the James-Younger gang - the famous Northfield Raid - trying to rob the bank half a block away. The only casualty to the family was one of Fred's store windows.

The family moved to San Antonio in 1882 where Fred became engaged in the grocery business with their son-in-law, Burton James and also real estate.
