OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)

Miss Harriet Bell Waite, teacher in Wabash schools for 41 years, died Thursday afternoon at 12:34 o'clock in the Irene Bryon sanitarium in Fort Wayne where she had been admitted Saturday. For a year Miss Waite had been ill following an attack of bronchial pneumonia, complicated by arterio sclerosis.

She had been a life-long resident of Wabash, having been born March 5, 1862 in Wabash county to Luther and Nancy (Tracy) Waite.

Miss Waite began her teaching career in 1891. On the completiion of the Wabash High school (the present junior high building) in 1894, she taught an elementary grade there. In 1900 she began her principalship in the Century building which was completed in that year. The principalship at Miami was held by Miss Waite until her retirement at the end of the school year in 1932. Since her retirement she had lived in her home, 191 West Hill street.

The decedent was affiliated with the First Christian church. Among her social interests was the Wabash Garden club.

Miss Waite is survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Knight, Crown Point. Five sisters and one brother preceded her in death. A number of nieces also survive: Mrs. Grace Bent, Wabash, Mrs. Lola Cochrane, Danville, Ill., Mrs. Elmer Burns, Wabash and Mrs. Clayton Parker, Indianapolis. Nephews surviving are Paul and Ed Knight, Crown Point, Ray Knight, Benton Harbor, Mich., John Knight, Washington D.C. and Frank McClure, Wabash.

Fred Wolff will officiate at funeral services to be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Jones funeral home, where the body will remain until that time. Burial will be in Falls cemetery.
