It was in nearby Centralia that Birdie was born. She had four brothers, Herbert, Hiran, Thomas and Stanley. Before Birdie was born Stanley died at the age of 6 months.
By 1920 the Starns family moved to Summerville, Union County Oregon, near the city of LaGrande. In 1921 in Union County, Birdie married Burr Cantrel, a laborer who did road construction and logging. They did not have children.
