Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at River Oaks Baptist Church. Interment: 3 p.m. Thursday in Vashti Cemetery in Clay County. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Virginia Smith Shahan was born to Richard Randolph and Effie Ollya Polk Smith. She grew up on a peanut farm in DeLeon in Comanche County. Being raised in a Christian home, she received Jesus for herself as a girl, thus assurring her place in heaven for all eternity.
As a young lady, Virginia moved to Fort Worth where she met and married Elvin Joe Shahan on Dec. 24, 1944. God blessed them with three children, Larry Joe, Judy Lynn and Richard Lee. These two raised their children in River Oaks, a town within Fort Worth.
They were active in River Oaks Baptist Church and the Castleberry Chapter 1028 Order of the Eastern Star. Virginia was known for her child care, cooking and general care for others.
The family would like to give special thanks for the loving care provided by Sheila Christoph and the other caregives of First Aid Agency and to the caregivers of VITAS Hospice.
Survivors: Children, Larry J. Shahan and wife, Mary, Judy L. Shahan and Richard L. Shahan and wife, Bonita; sister, Dalpha Kelley; Larry's children, Leroy Shahan, Tammy Johnson and husband, Don, Michelle Varnell and husband, Fredric; Richard's daughter, Shauna Murphree and husband, Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Tammy's Morgan and Hudson Wyatt.
