Joseph "Jobie" Mason Cason was the son of Jeremiah Cason (1800 – 1866) and Elizabeth Faver Cason (1795 – 1867). He was born in Simmons Bluff in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Jobie married first wife, Temperance "Tempie" Palistine Cooper (1836 – 1888)
in Bedford County, Tennessee. Jobie and Tempie had 8 children together before Tempie's death in 1888).

Jobie and Tempie attended the Salem Baptist Church in Wilson County. Jobie served as the head of the Sunday School department. When he and the pastor of the church had a falling out, Jobie moved his family to the New Liberty Baptist Church on Simmons Bluff Road in Wilson County. While attending this church, Jobie served ad a delegate to the monthly associational meetings.

Jobie was an accomplished and wealthy man man. While living in Wilson County he amassed over 600 acres of land and 20 slaves. This was a large amount of slaves for the area. Jobie used the slaves for logging and for farming. No record of how he treated the slaves has been found. In addition to being a wealthy land owner, Jobie was well educated. He attended Union University for at least a year (which was unusual at the time). According to family lore he read 5 languages.

Sometime after 1882, Jobie moved his family from Wilson County, Tennessee to Wise County, Texas. Several letters from Tempie to family members can be found in Meritt Grave's book. The letters describe the circumstances around the proposed move and other family details.

After arriving in Texas the family became founding members of of the Greenwood Baptist Church. Several years later, Jobie was widowed when wife, Tempie passed away in July of 1888.

Five months later, 55 year old Jobie married second wife, Martha Catherine "Callie" Wilborn in Wise County, Texas. At 24, Callie was less than half Jobie's age when the couple married. According to one family member, Callie always called Jobie, "Mr. Cason" and he called her "Baby". The 30 year age difference in the couple was not well accepted by Jobie's children with wife Tempie.

AFter their marriage, Jobie and Callie had six children together.

Prior to his marriage with Callie, Jobie was licensed to preach. He was ordained in September of 1889. The picture of Jobie on this site was taken about this time.

It appears that the couple was attending Bethel Baptist Church of Alford, Texas in the years before Jobie died.
