Bill died at the Chosen Valley Care Center on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009.
William Richard Hawkins was born in Pine Island on March 20, 1925, to Patrick and Susan (Bassett) Hawkins. He married Leona Mae (Abbott) Richardson on Jan. 7, 1978, in Chatfield. He lived in Pine Island until1980, then moved to Chatfield.
He was the owner and operator of Bills Floral and Gifts in Pine Island, and a groundskeeper at Assisi Heights in Rochester for 13 years. He also worked at Skippy's grocery store in Chatfield until he retired due to poor health.
Bill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching, was a Minnesota Twins fan, and also enjoyed making dried floral arrangements and wreaths to sell at craft shows for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Leona of Chatfield; two stepsons, Steven Richardson of Eyota and John (Brenda) Richardson of LeRoy; a stepdaughter, Jenny Richardson of Portland, Ore.; eight stepgrandchildren and seven great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Mary (William) Perry and Alice Rose LaPlant, both of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 12, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
The body has been cremated, and burial will be at a later date in the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Pine Island.
