VIRGINIA BEACH - Elizabeth "Betty" Carpenter, 75, went to be with the Lord our God April 30, 2007. Betty passed in her Virginia Beach home surrounded by her family.

Betty was a tremendous supporting asset to her church family as a Sunday school teacher and/or director for almost 20 years at Burrows Memorial Baptist Church. She belonged to various other church groups and committees. She retired as secretary to the president of the Communication Workers of America Local 2202.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Joseph Carpenter Sr.; her brother, William Foreman; her son, Jack J. Carpenter Jr.; and her daughter, Phyllis Carpenter Wall. She was loved by everyone who came to know her. She adored her grandchildren, Heather Carpenter, Jason Carpenter, Amy Carpenter, Chris Carpenter, Travis Wall and Amber Wall. She had a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Savanna, Sadie Elizabeth, Isabelle and Kyra. She also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Melissa Carpenter and a sister-in-law, Betty Foreman along with her nephews, Dr. John Foreman, Roy Foreman and Dan Foreman and their loving spouses.

Betty touched so many lives that floods of people have called to remark on her giving and loving nature and strong Christian faith. She loved to walk, bowl and attend her retired members functions. We would like to thank everyone who loved our Betty. She will be truly missed and envied for the many jewels she surely attained in her crown of glory.

A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with the Rev. J. Don Harris officiating. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Burrows Baptist Church, 1539 Johnstons Road, Norfolk, VA 23518.
