William H. Triplett was born in Monroe county, Tenn., June 15, 1836, and is a son of James M. and Tircy (Freeman) Triplett, who were born in the Carolinas. In 1849 they located in Pope county, Ill., where they farmed and reared their family, and where the father's death occurred in the spring of 1886. William H. Triplett grew to manhood in Illinois, and was married in Pope county, September 25, 1856, to Miss Mary Jane Hazel, born March 25, 1838 a daughter of Alfred M. Hazel, both of whom were born in Illinois. After his marriage he farmed in Pope and Johnson counties up to 1870, when in the fall of that year, he located in Franklin county, Ark., and farmed three years. In the spring of 1874 he moved to Kansas, Cherokee county, but in the fall of 1875 came to Webster county, Mo., where he purchased the farm of 240 acres where he now resides, on which he has made some valuable improvements. He has given land to his children, and now only has eighty acres, nearly all of which is under cultivation.
He has about thirty-three acres in orchard, and has a comfortable home and good out buildings. He is a Republican in politics, and while a resident of Illinois served four years as constable. He is a Master Mason, and he and wife are members of the Missionary Baptist church, and are the parents of the following family: James A., born
February 1, 1858, is married and resides near his father; William T., born April 7, 1860, is also married and resides near his father; Martha J., born June 6, 1862, is the wife of W. H. Newcomer; Della, born May 8, 1865, is the wife of J. D. Melton; Mary L., born January 16, 1868; Grant, born October 27, 1870; Charles F., born May 3, 1874, died September 7, 1878; Reuben W., born May 28, 1877; and Elsa Ann, born September 13, 1882. In 1881 Mr. Triplett engaged in the grist milling business, and owned a one-half interest and carried on the mill for six years, but in 1887 exchanged his interest for another farm of eighty acres, fifty acres in cultivation, all in good condition, with eleven acres in young orchard.
