Dear Herald: I am nearing my 74th birthday. Left my old Kentucky home the 9th day of Oct, fifty-one years ago. Lost my right arm in a gin in the fall of 1885. Got the Post office the first of June, 1886. I have been at this place fifty years, the past Christmas, have seen our town rise from a wide place in the road to a town of 800 inhabitants.

I am sending you M O for $1.50 for which you will set my subscription up for one year on the Herald. It's like a letter from home after this long absence and in speaking of there, I still call it home.

If I see this in print I will give you a short history of some of the folks that came here from Ohio County when I did.

If anyone that I once knew sees this and will write to me, I will take pleasure in answering their letters. Yours Respectfully, J J Carter.
