Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday Nov 1, 2003, for former Vernon resident Fern Kennedy Cook, 87, of Crowley who died Wednesday, Oct 29 2003 in a Fort Worth hospital. Don Kleppe officiated and interment was in Chillicothe Cemetery.

Fern was born June 30, 1916, in Chillicothe, a daughter of the late Earl G. and Georgia Ayers Kennedy. She married L.G. "Dusty" Cook on 27 March 1948, and he preceded her in death on 4 March 1993.

A 1934 graduate of Chillicothe High School, she began her banking career in 1945 at the First National Bank of Chillicothe. She was later employed at banks in Dumas, Dallas, and at the Waggoner National Bank of Vernon, where she retired in 1981. She moved from Vernon to Fort Worth in 1995. She was a member of the Wilbarger General Hospital Auxiliary and the Altamesa Church of Christ in Fort Worth.

Surviving are a daughter, Margene Cook of Fort Worth, and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, E.A. Kennedy, Sr. and Dewey Earl Kennedy, and a nephew.
