Aunt Lizzie Roe Dies Saturday Evening, Funeral Tuesday

Mrs. W. L. Roe, 86, Story county pioneer, died at the home of daughter, Mrs. Jessie Hankins, 1102 K avenue, in Nevada, Saturday evening, July 11, at 5:20, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Nevada Methodist church, after which the body ill be taken to the Johnson Grove cemetery for interment in the family lot, by the side of her husband, the late William L. Roe, who passed away September 21, 1940.

The body will be at the home of the daughter, where she died from this afternoon until the funeral hour, where it may be viewed by friends.

"Aunt Lizzie," as she was familiarly known, was married to William L. "Bill" Roe, on July 4, 1880, and they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at the Hankins home but a few short months before the passing of the husband.

She leaves in her immediate family only the one daughter at whose home she died, and a foster son, Joe Smay, of Fernald.

Mr. and Mrs. Roe spent their entire married life in the Fernald community until about four years ago when they moved to Nevada and established their home near their only surviving daughter. It was there that Mr. Roe died two years ago September 21.

The lives of both Mr. and Mrs. Roe were long and useful ones. They were beloved by their children and other relatives as well as by a wide circle of neighbors and friends.
