Wright aka Chandler Cemetery

PHOTO: This is probably what would have been the south entrance (City of Chandler side) for the Chandler Cemetery (aka the Wright Cemetery)

Located in the SE Corner of the NE ¼ Sec 4 T14N R4E in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, approximately three acres. Originally on Wright Family property.
Locally known as the "Wright Cemetery."

Inscriptions were recorded by Indian Spring Chapter, DAR, Chandler, Oklahoma October 21, 1962.

1892___"The Chandler Cemetery Association was organized the 27th day of October, 1892 by the following named persons as trustees: Frank A. Niblack, James C. Fletcher, B. F. Harriman, R. E. Jenness, L. J. Kalklosch. Said trustees purchased of A D Wright the above described property." (page 100 of DAR transcriptions)

1972___"The following list was copied from records of the Cemetery now (1972) in the possession of the Lincoln County Historical Society. The records were preserved by A. D. Wright, Secretary & Treasurer of the Chandler Cemetery Association, and his son Charles Wright." (Page 102 DAR transcriptions)

The above information was copied from reference material in the Chandler Public Library. Included in this information is the DAR transcription of headstones in the Chandler Aka Wright Cemetery and a "burial and purchaser" list provided to the Lincoln County Historical Society in 1972. ( All the DAR transcriptions for cemeteries in Lincoln County are copied and bound in blue hardback books.)

The Wright Cemetery is currently very overgrown and had no attention in many years. Most of the headstones are toppled, broken or missing. Cedar trees are taking over and obscure many gravesites. This is a "private" cemetery, owned by the association (or possibly the Lincoln County Historical Society) so I do not know who is responsible for the upkeep.

FYI: A long time resident told me that the construction of the Turner Turnpike (I-44) through Chandler cut through the most northern part of the cemetery, which is supposed to be three (3) acres in size. He even said that some graves had been relocated but had no further detail.
