Her father, William Chastain moved to Hall County, Georgia, before the Indians were taken off, they were first put back on the west side of the Chattahoochee River. It was called "Cherokee". I haven't the date, but Mama, Temperance Chastain was a small girl. It was in the dead of winter when Grandfather came to Hall County; there were no roads, or a white family on the west side of the Chattahoochee River, but the woods were open, many large trees, but very little shrubbery. So he came seven miles in, to the Indian nation. He stopped and unloaded his wagons (one was an ox wagon) and the other was drawn by a large horse under an oak, worked the oak into boards, and erected a shelter until he could build a house. There, after rearing sixteen children from one woman, Mary West Chastain) died and was buried at a church house called Sardis in Hall County, GA.
