Sarah EVANS was born in February of 1805 in Screven County to
• Reuel EVANS R.S. (1766-1830) &
• Sarah Elizabeth SLATER (1774-1824).

Sarah had two married brothers, both older:
Hezekiah EVANS (1796-1875), the husband of Sarah MOORE (1793-1873) of Effingham County (Hezekiah's daughter-in-law, Mary Ann A. HUGHES EVANS (1834-1900), is also buried in this cemetery), and
Charles Wesley EVANS Sr. (1804-1822), the husband of Lovicy CHARLTON (1823-1868)
- both of these couples remained in Screven County.

Sarah had three married sisters:
• Mary B. EVANS (died by 1840), who, in 1818 in Bulloch County, married William B. MCCALL (by 1830, this couple moved to Gadsden County in the Territory of Florida where his father Sherrod MCCALL had settled),
• Lucretia EVANS (born 1808-1809, died after 1860), the wife of James MOORE (died 1837), and
• Letitia EVANS (born 1813-1820, died after 1870), the wife of the Rev. William Sherrod MOORE (born 1807, died by 1868).
Sarah MOORE EVANS, James MOORE and the Rev. William Sherrod MOORE were siblings, the children of of John MOORE & Marcia MCCALL of Effingham County.

Sarah first married Henry A. BURTON, the son of
• Robert BURTON Sr. &
• Elizabeth DENMARK.
Sarah & Henry were married in 1825 in Effingham County (he died before 1831). Sarah then became the second wife of George Adam ASH in 1842 in Chatham County, and, in 1861, became his widow as well.

Sarah EVANS BURTON ASH had two daughters by her first husband, born between 1826 and 1830 (she was appointed their guardian in 1840):
• Martha Eliza BURTON and
• Mary Elvira BURTON.
Her second husband was appointed guardian of Mary Elvira BURTON in 1844; by him Sarah was the mother of:
Rev. John Hergen ASH II in 1843, and of her namesake,
• Sarah Evans ASH, in 1846 (died 1849).

An excerpt from History of the Baptist Denomination in Georgia (Volume II, Page 12, 1881), concerning her son, John Hergen ASH: [He] was born in Savannah, Georgia, November 17th, 1843. He was the only son of George A. and Sarah ASH, by a second marriage on both sides. He was deeply impressed by the death of an only sister, at the age of three years. Though he was very young, this bereavement caused him to reflect most seriously about his responsibility to God, and the "vast concerns" of eternity. He was fortunate in having a mother of deep piety, who communed much with God, and the remembrance of her fervent pryaers for him still lingers in his bosom. She often took her boy by the hand to lead him to place where she daily knelt in prayer to pour out her soul to God, and with sweet, gentle voice invited him to go with her. At other times, he would hear the voice of prayer, and, tracing out the sound, would be made an auditor to his mother's pleadings before the throne of grace. This devoted mother gave her son to the Lord, asking that he might be called into the ministry. Her prayers have been answered, though she did not live to see it.

Abstract from Laurel Grove Cemetery Keepers Book: Sarah ASH died the 19th of June, 1866, and was buried the following day in Lot 326 [sic]. She was a native of Georgia, aged 61 years; she was a resident of Taylor and Price Streets.
