Glendon L. Floyd, 85, aka Candy Grandpa and Grandpa Glen, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, while digging up a tree.

Glen was a patriot, born on the 4th of July, 1924 to Carl and Bessie Floyd in Hanson, OK. As a student Glen was awarded the American Legion award for model behavior and superior grades. As an American, he served in the 2132nd Army Air Force Base Unit, Maxwell Field, Alabama, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1945.

As a son he remained loyal and caring for Carl and Bessie, making sure every grave was neat and decorated until his own life ended. As a brother he was part of a group so tightly bound by their love for each other that no favor was too small or large.

As a husband he proved his true love for his wife, Norma, making it evident that they were truly made for each other.

As a father he wasn't afraid to be the bad guy. His mission was to instill honor, loyalty and ethics in his children. He did, and they all loved him for it.

Glen was a salesman and entrepreneur. He sacrificed many hours on the road to provide for his family. He spent the last few years of his life back home in Sallisaw, drinking a lot of free coffee at Braum's and hanging out at Lessley's Motor Company, swapping lies with Jim and Lawton. His passion in his retirement was educating himself and others about his Uncle Pretty Boy.

Survivors left behind to tell the stories are one sister, Barbara Moore and husband Butch of OKC; two brothers, Bayne Floyd and wife Donna of Moore and Charles Floyd and wife Ella of Edmond; one son, Barry Floyd of Moore; grandchildren: Aspen Dewey and Kasey Dewey Larue and their father, Terry; Glen Floyd; Dr. Scott Floyd; Evan Floyd and their mother, Delana; and Ben Floyd and his mother, Mariana; great-grandchildren, A.J. Larue, Rex Floyd and Alex Floyd; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George Cadell and wife Pat and June Killian and husband Lonnie; along with all the members of the Cadell/Waley family.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Graveside, 3:00 P.M., Wed., Nov. 11, 2009, in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
